Rideology! bikes bikes

About Rideology

Rideology opened its doors on January 1, 2012. Owner and Founder, Jack Johnson, sought to create a community-minded business that combined his fascination with mechanical engineering, his dedication to fitness, and his passion for environmentalism. Over the last several years, Rideology has continued to uphold its commitment to Austin, Texas through event sponsorship and volunteering, establishing group rides for all ages, helping with trail work, and just riding bikes! The two primary focuses of Rideology’s website is to educate the benefits of riding together as a community for not just novice riders but cycling enthusiast as well. Here at Rideology we strive on bringing the community together as a whole, by trying to achieve this goal we added the feature of a weekly ride calendar on our webpage. If you like our page and what we are about but don’t have a bike of your own worry not, Rideology has plenty of bikes to choose from on our website.

When creating the website, I wanted to go with something that was simple but eye catching. I wanted to ensure that the user did not get distracted when viewing the webpages, so I decided to go with dark backgrounds to ensure that the text on the webpage would stand out. The use of open road on the calendar page is targeted to getting users to come out and join our weekly rides. For the items we sale page I decided to go with the white background, this is so the consumer may view each bicycle without any background colors impeding on the overall view of the image. For the purpose of engagement, I input a few YouTube videos to catch the viewers attentions. The video located on the Home page informs the end user of the overall benefits of cycling and the other is a live video from one of the cycling rides in the Austin, Texas hill country. Each webpage has a navigation bar located at the top of the page so that the user may navigate with ease and convenience. Located at the bottom of the contact us page I input a location pin for our store’s location, in addition to the location pin I input a “Keep in touch” function so that the end user may receive weekly or monthly emails.

I would like to improve the calendar by making it more interactive by allowing the end user to view riding activities for the entire year instead of just one month. Adding more retail items for purchase such as helmets, water bottles, clothes and shoes would be another great resource to add within the website. If I had additional time, I would have liked inputting the function of a shopping cart tab so the user could purchase items through the website. Located on the contact us page, the future updates would include an image of the store front to provide users a visual representation of what to expect when they arrive. A cycling blog would be another great addition to the website so that riders may discuss experiences and provide any additional feedback.
